The Linghams staff work together as a team, different but complementary, each having unique responsibility for particular sections of the shop. If you`re looking for something specific, with any luck there will be a member of staff who has special knowledge about that subject.
Sue and Mike
Sue and Mike have recently moved from the Isle of Wight to take over as owners of Linghams. Sue is originally from the Wirral and still has family and friends in the area. Both are avid readers and are very excited to be taking over this iconic shop.
Maggie has worked at Linghams for 18 years and what she doesn’t know about bookselling isn’t worth knowing. If you’re having trouble finding a book by a less well-known author or which has been out of print for a while , Maggie’s your woman. The cookery, health and travel sections are her speciality but she has a great knowledge of the whole shop.
Becky joined us in April from West Kirby where she had been manager. She has worked at Linghams ever since she left school and brings huge enthusiasm and fresh ideas to the Heswall shop- one of the staff described her as whirling dervish! Ask her about general fiction, local books and biographies - or anything really.
After working in a local playgroup Gill has been managing the children’s section for many years and is the person to ask if you’re wondering what to buy a nephew for his birthday or a grandchild for a Christening present. A friend to many local families, she’s great at knowing which book is exactly right for which age group and reading ability, and is always to be found at the back till in her toy ‘kingdom’.
Carole is our greetings card and wrapping paper buyer and has a fantastic eye for spotting unusual and attractive designs which can’t be found anywhere else. She also runs the art/craft/DIY section where we try to keep a tight rein on her to prevent her from spending the entire shop’s profits on ordering beautiful glossy books- but so far to no avail. Put us out of our agony and come and buy them!
Kerry also came from the West Kirby shop and is now devoting her time to helping schools on the Wirral. Ask her about education guides, or, if you’re a teacher, have a chat with her about how she can help you with Book Fairs, Author Events and Open Evenings. She will do her best to arrange the best possible terms for you and is willing to deliver to schools within a reasonable distance of the shop.
We were gutted to lose Mike recently (who has gone on to higher things in the engineering world) but are really delighted to welcome Jordan onto the staff team. Jordan is studying for A levels and is hoping to do English at university so is off to a very good start by joining the bookselling world. He is also a keen Liverpool supporter but we don’t hold that against him.
