Calling all Harry Potter fans young and old..NEW and not so new.

What an adventure we had ! Lots of  customers attending and in fancy dress too!

Super! Super! evening!

The book is the transcript of the play presented on the west end stage.

Latest update from JK  “its a tearjerker”

Based on an original new story by J.K. Rowling, John Tiffany and Jack Thorne, a new play by Jack Thorne, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is the eighth story in the Harry Potter series and the first official Harry Potter story to be presented on stage. The play will receive its world premiere in London’s West End on 30th July 2016. It was always difficult being Harry Potter and it isn’t much easier now that he is an overworked employee of the Ministry of Magic, a husband, and father of three school-age children. While Harry grapples with a past that refuses to stay where it belongs, his youngest son Albus must struggle with the weight of a family legacy he never wanted. As past and present fuse ominously, both father and son learn the uncomfortable truth: sometimes, darkness comes from unexpected places

Rosie MillardTUES OCT 6TH: AN AUDIENCE WITH ROSIE MILLARD

We were delighted that for our first evening event under new ownership and as part of the Heswall Festival we were able to entertain  Rosie Millard who was  at Linghams promoting her new book ‘The Square’.

Rosie has a regular column in in The Independent and writes features, comment pieces and interviews for other national newspapers and magazines, including The Sunday Times, The Times, The Independent, The Daily Mail and New Statesman. She wrote the Mr and Mrs Millard marital column in the Body and Soul section of the Saturday Times. She was the arts editor and theatre critic for New Statesman. Millard has also written 3 books, The Tastemakers: U.K. Art Now. She then wrote Bonnes Vacances , a comic travel memoir recounting a journey around the French Overseas Territories with her children in 2011. This was published along a series of TV documentaries on the same trip presented by Millard. Her first novel,’The Square’ (published in August this year) is a comic romp set in London.

Rosie was wonderfully entertaining talking about her book and answering questions before signing copies for customers. Its a fun book (we’ve read it) – ideal for book clubs!

andy1  photoAndy McNab mug

The British Army’s most highly decorated serving soldier, was with us talking about his life and writing and introducing his newest book ‘Fortress:Tom Buckingham 2’ . As a member of 22 SAS Andy was at the centre of covert operations for nine years – on five continents. During the Gulf War he commanded Bravo Two Zero, a patrol that, in the words of his commanding officer, ‘will remain in regimental history for ever’. Besides his bestselling books about military history he is also a popular author for the younger generation.

Not only were our customers  really delighted to meet him, but the staff all said afterwards what a great guy he was. Thanks for including Linghams in your tour, Andy.

’Linghams

Yes, we`ve finally done it. Following our success in 2012 in winning the North of England award, 2013 was the year when we won the Independent Booksellers Award for the whole of the UK. On May 13th, in an Oscars style ceremony at the Park Lane Hilton, Peter and Eleanor were presented with an engraved trophy and a cheque for £5000 from prize sponsors Gardners Wholesalers.

We know we would never have won this award without the amazing team we have here – every single member of the legendary Linghams staff team who slave away daily to give you good service, our fantastic web designer John at Rom and Ram – www.romandram.co.uk (who is bringing you this page today!), our wonderfully supportive accountant Libby at KBH accountants – www.kbhaccountants.co.uk and all our great suppliers and supporters. And of course Iain Corlett who years ago invented the whole thing.

But most of all we want to thank you, our fabulous loyal customers who ignore cut-price stores and electronic on-line ordering, and support our lovely local shop through thick and thin. Thank you for appreciating us – we certainly appreciate you! Keep on coming in!
