About Linghams

Welcome to the website of Linghams Bookshop in Heswall
We are an independent bookshop incorporating ‘Toast’ coffee bar .  The shop has recently been taken over by Sue Porter and Mike King.  Sue is originally from the area, having had a short stint living on the Isle of Wight.  Mike is originally from Cambridge, but is now  loving , living on our little peninsular.  Both Sue and Mike have a great love of books and would like to welcome all our customers new and old.

    Coffee Bar

It is our licensed coffee bar which gives the shop its unique character, offering a place to browse the daily newspapers in a cosy venue with traditional waiter/waitress service and a huge variety of delicious cakes, snacks and more substantial meals. We have a wide selection of differing types of coffee and tea, and our milkshakes are famous throughout the Wirral. Coffee and books- what could be better?

There are always several events going on including a  Poetry Evening on the first Thursday of every month, a thriving Book Club on the second Thursday of every month, a regular story time for the under 6’s (11 a.m. Saturdays) and live piano music every Saturday morning. There are also other events during the holidays to occupy children and  author signings throughout the year. WE LOOK FORWARD TO SEEING YOU SOON!

Besides stocking a wide range of  books to suit all tastes we also have an extremely efficient ordering system  (usually with a 24 hour turnaround)it is not unusual for a book to be ordered at 4.30 in the evening and to be in the shop by 10 a.m. the next day.  Books can be ordered over the phone or online. Our staff are highly knowledgeable and love talking about books, most of them have worked here for 5 years or more and know the trade inside out.

Besides all the usual adult books we sell loads of childrens’ titles, educational guides and resources, toys, puzzles, games, greeting cards, wrapping paper, cds, sheet music and other non book items. There are armchairs dotted around the shop and customers are encouraged to linger and browse for as long as they want. We are delighted to supply local schools and special terms can usually be arranged. We also offer wheelchair friendly access throughout the shop.
